We'd like you to imagine you have diabetes -- or think about having diabetes if you do indeed have the condition. After all, about 16 million people, or 5% of the US population, suffer from Diabetes mellitus, so it's pretty common! So here you are with a malfunctioning pancreas. Do you have a failing organ because you're a bad person? When your insulin level is low and you have no energy, does that make you a lazy pig? When your mood is affected by your high or low sugar and you feel like garbage, should you feel bad about taking your medicine? No. Right? Yet when we have symptoms of depression caused by physical problems, we forget that the brain is also an organ, just as prone to being faulty as any other organ, or any other part of our bodies. |
