This is where understanding our depression really helps us. It is vital to remember that the state of being depressed automatically means that your feelings about the world and the actual facts of the world may be somewhat askew. After all, the sanest, smartest person in the world doesn't know all the facts of the world around them, nor do their emotional responses to situations necessarily match up to some sort of "objective" view of their situation. We are all emotional creatures, and thank God (or whatever higher power you prefer) for it...as long as everything's working right. When we're depressed, it's impossible for us to achieve our "personal norm" of objectivity. Dr. Grace: "Personally, I think being "objective" is over-rated. For one thing, it's impossible." If you're also bothered by the idea of being "objective," you can define a different goal for yourself, such as being "fair." But however you define the goal here, the idea is to get a perspective outside of your own feelings about the matter.
